The Independent Musicians Alliance is an organization of musicians in solidarity, and we’re always happy to welcome more members. Find out more about who we are, and join us in strengthening the voice of your fellow musicians as a whole.

Join the IMA!

What does it mean to be an IMA member?

  • IMA members stand together in collectively advocating for new standards of compensation, benefits, and working conditions.

  • IMA members will have access to grant opportunities, discounted ticket prices for IMA and Jazz in the Neighborhood events, and access to a private discussion forum. Dues-paying members will also be eligible to apply for IMA subsidies for the costs related to rehearsal space, rehearsal fees, cartage, showcases, student scholarships, and other items agreed upon by the membership.

  • As a solidarity organization, IMA members are encouraged to join our meetings and voice concerns and ideas for the organization. We have collected information from musicians as powerful presentation materials, and hope to do more similar work in the future. Dues-paying members can vote on IMA leadership roles and other IMA initiatives.

How do I join?

The Independent Musicians Alliance has a sliding scale for paying dues, to enable as many musicians to join as possible. We ask $5 a month for regular dues and $10 a month for “pay-it-forward” dues, billed either monthly or on an annual basis. Please choose the level that matches your current financial ability, as these dues will allow the IMA to produce future events, grant opportunities, and other projects devoted to paying musicians fair wages.

If you are not a Bay Area musician, please feel free to sign up as an ally on our mailing list below to receive updates on the IMA. We’re very appreciative of your support, and you’re always welcome to send us your thoughts or donate to the cause.
